Discover Hays County Master Naturalists: Learn how to live in our rural setting in a more sustainable and ecofriendly manner, to enjoy the wonderment of our closeness to nature, and to enhance our properties to attract and provide for native flora and fauna. For information please visit www.haysmn.org

Burn Ban info
To learn whether a burn ban is currently in effect for GWW, call the Hays County Sheriff's Department at 512-393-7896. Before burning brush in your yard notify our local Volunteer Fire Department:
Driftwood VFD
15850 FM 1826
512-288-5474
For guidelines on safe burning, download guidelines from the Hays County Fire Marshal.

Fire Safe Landscaping guidelines
All residents should study our volunteer fire department's Fire Safe Landscaping guidelines here. These recommendations may save your home, and those of your neighbors, in the event of serious fire danger.

Recycling
The Hays County Recycling center is located at 20290 FM 150 W at CR 162 (Darden Hill Road) in Driftwood. The phone number is 858-9515 and the facility is open from 8 am to 4 pm daily except for Wednesdays and Sundays. Click here for more information.

Please do not trespass
Residents are advised that power easements are private property, so these areas are not open for public hiking, biking, riding off-road vehicles, etc. The power easements are the strips of land under the power lines which run through several properties at the back of our neighborhood. In the past, children and adults have used these cleared areas for recreation because they didn't realize the land was private. These property owners request that folks please respect their privacy by not trespassing in their back yards.

House numbers
In order for emergency services to quickly locate a residence, our local Driftwood Volunteer Fire Department requests that all residents properly identify their street address, preferably using the Hays County standardized reflective house number sign. A sign may be obtained from the County for $3.00. A form for ordering the sign is available for download here.

Water hardness index number (for residents with a programmable water softener): 33.6 grains

Lost and Found Pets Residents who lose a pet or find a lost (domestic) animal are encouraged to do the following:

Email our Administrator, who will send out a message to area residents in an effort to reunite the lost pet with its family.

List pets on: Austin Lost Pets www.austinlostpets.com
Inform our designated pet shelter (in case the owners are using this method to locate their pet, or to locate the owner of a found pet):
PAWS in Kyle www.pawsshelter.org
Phone in or post information on lost or found pets to area veterinarians.
People frequently post lost/found notices in vet waiting rooms
Register your pet with our POA:
In an effort to make it easier to get pets back home safely, the POA office is asking that property owners send in a photo of their pet(s) to the administrator via email or by dropping it in the POA box at the mail station. Please include this information: Pet’s name, age, breed, temperament, owner’s name and contact information. If the administrator gets a report of your pet running loose or having been found, you will be contacted. The photos don’t need to be anything fancy, just enough to identify your pet.

Landscape Improvement in public areas
Benefactors wishing to donate to our Landscape Improvement fund may obtain a Sponsorship form here. The completed form, along with donation, should be placed into the GWW POA drop box at the mail station. Sponsors will be acknowledged in the newsletter and on the web site, unless they request otherwise.

Oak wilt information is available on Texas A&M's site here.

Garbage Service
Four providers serve GWW. Recon picks up on Monday, Texas Disposal Systems picks up on Wednesday, and CDS and IESI Austin (MID-TEX Disposal service) pick up on Thursday. Central Disposal Service, Texas Disposal Systems and Recon offer recycling pickup for an additional fee.
